Hôtel Le Garage Biarritz
A century-old car garage, rebuilt as a design hotel by the sea
Le Garage Biarritz is a former car garage turned hotel, set back from the cliffs above the Atlantic near Miramar beach. The building dates from more than a century ago, when it opened as an aero club before becoming a private garage for the wealthy guests of the Hôtel Régina, storing their cars under cover in individual bays. It closed for three decades before reopening, briefly, as a street art venue in 2018, then reopened again in 2020 after a ten-month renovation. The arched doorway and rounded window frames survive; inside, rough concrete and industrial fittings sit against terrazzo and soft, holiday-toned furnishings. There are 27 rooms and suites across three floors, most with private terraces, and top-floor suites add a king-size bed, a copper bathtub, and views over Biarritz's lighthouse and coastline. The heated outdoor pool, open from May to October, sits in a palm-lined courtyard and doubles as the hotel's social hub after golf or a surf session. The restaurant works Basque produce into a sharing-plate menu served around the patio and terrace. It is a five-minute walk to the Golf de Biarritz Le Phare and close to several surf breaks along the coast. Biarritz airport is eight minutes away by car.
