Hôtel Mirabeau
Hôtel Mirabeau is a city hotel on Avenue de la Gare, a short walk from Lausanne's train station. It holds 75 rooms across several categories, from street-side standards to lake-view suites, each fitted with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a safe. Several rooms and the junior suites look out over Lake Geneva; the family suite adds a separate bathroom arrangement for privacy between generations. Breakfast runs as a buffet each morning, and a small fitness room stays open from early to late.

Downstairs, the restaurant is run by Chef Didier Sarrat, in the kitchen for three decades, who works a French menu built on seasonal produce and market finds. Chateaubriand, bouillabaisse and whole sole meunière appear on the winter menu. Behind the building, a shaded terrace sits under chestnut trees and seats up to 80 guests for lunch or dinner from mid-May to mid-September. The bar sits off the reception and shifts character through the day, a coffee stop by morning, a Wi-Fi table by afternoon, a cocktail spot by night. It is open early and late.

The hotel also handles banquets and small conferences, useful given the walk to the station. Parking is available nearby, and pets are welcome for a daily charge.
