Idal Villa

Set above a valley of tea plantations, Idal Villa looks out on the Haputale mountains and the narrow line of track carrying the Colombo–Ella train through the mist. The property comprises two separate stays: a three-room villa and, close by, a two-room cottage, each with its own sunrise-facing outlook and available to book by the room or in full. Bedrooms come with ensuite bathrooms. Meals draw on vegetables grown in the villa's own garden, prepared over an open flame in the local style. It is a quiet arrangement. Guests share a swimming pool, a five-hole mini golf course, and a small gym; a massage room can be arranged with notice, and the cottage has its own games room and pantry. Outdoor dining and a fire pit sit in the garden, where the air carries birdsong and, some mornings, cloud low over the hills. The Pekoe Trail passes near enough for walking straight from the door, through tea plantations and ridge lines with views back toward Haputale. Idalgashinna's own station, one stop on the hill line, gives the villa its name and its quiet: far enough from Ella's crowds, close enough for a day trip. The estate also runs a community centre and toy library for local children, part of a wider effort employing villagers in the running of the property.
