Igaliku Country Hotel

Arriving by boat across the Tunulliarfik fjord, guests disembark within a short walk of Igaliku Country Hotel, set at the centre of one of South Greenland's smallest settlements. Those coming from Itilleq instead cover four kilometres of gravel road, with luggage transport available for anyone skipping the walk. The hotel holds seven rooms, each modest in size but recently renovated, with shared showers and toilets set along the corridor. Its restaurant is the only one in the village and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner from local Greenlandic ingredients, the dining room facing the fjord and the mountains beyond. It is a modest, working stop rather than a resort. Beyond the hotel, sister lodgings include a guest house with four double rooms and six private cabins set on the slope above, each with its own bathroom and a terrace looking over the water. From the hotel, hiking trails lead to a plateau above the Qooroq Ice Fjord and to a set of waterfalls dropping toward the fjord, while the ruins of Igaliku's former Episcopal seat, occupied for roughly three centuries during the Norse era, sit within walking distance. You can fish for trout at nearby Lake 90 or simply sit outside and watch sheep graze the surrounding grassland. The hotel operates seasonally, open from June to mid-September.
