Inn at English Harbour
Freeman's Bay is white sand and clear, calm water, with sea turtles and a shipwreck close enough to reach by fin. The Inn sits on this shore inside Nelson's Dockyard National Park, its Georgian-style buildings mixed with mahogany furniture and antiques collected over decades. It is a small hotel by design. Thirty-one suites are split across four types: Beach Cabanas at 40 square metres with marble floors and direct beach access, Junior Suites at 63 square metres roughly 30 metres from the water, Deluxe Suites at 90 square metres under vaulted ceilings, and Hillside Pool Suites with their own plunge pools and harbour views. A private dock lets guests charter boats straight from the property, and snorkel gear is supplied free for the reef beyond the bay. Meals move with the day: The Reef serves breakfast and lunch by the sand, The Terrace catches the sunset uphill, and The Stone Bar pours rum after dark. Nelson's Dockyard, a restored Georgian naval yard and UNESCO World Heritage site, is a short water taxi across the harbour. Hiking trails to Shirley Heights and the Mermaid Pools start almost at the beach. You can hear the tradewinds pick up most afternoons, useful if sailing is the point of the trip.
