Built as the city's Hôtel-Dieu hospital in the eighteenth century, the building now operates as a 5-star hotel a minute's walk from Le Panier, Marseille's oldest quarter. The Vieux-Port lies two minutes away; the MuCEM museum is a five-minute walk. Interiors by designer Jean-Philippe Nuel keep the historic bones and add contemporary furnishing throughout. It works.
The hotel holds 179 rooms and 15 suites. Seventy-two rooms look over the Vieux-Port, and 33 open onto private terraces. The Capian bar takes its name from the carved wood prow-piece of a local fishing boat, and its terrace faces Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde across the water. Les Fenêtres, the in-house brasserie, serves Provençal-inspired cooking and extends onto an outdoor terrace in summer.
The Spa by Clarins & myBlend sits at the centre of the hotel, styled after the region's old stone wash-basins and laundry courts. It holds five treatment rooms, one built for two, an indoor pool kept at 28°C, two saunas — one infrared, one traditional — and steam rooms. It was Clarins' first wellness centre built in Marseille. Conference space extends across the ground and first floors, with rooms taking anywhere from 14 to 440 seated guests. Check-in guests arrive to a building still shaped by its original façade.
