Inzolo Lodge - Lalibela Game Reserve

Arrival at Inzolo means dropping into a valley walled by cliffs, where the lodge looks straight down onto a waterhole that draws game through the day. Lalibela Game Reserve runs to roughly 10,500 hectares of savannah grassland, malaria-free, and holds lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard alongside cheetah and hyena. Guests track them by vehicle on day and night drives, or on foot with a ranger on a guided Big Five walk, open to those between 18 and 70. Back at the lodge, four suites of stone and thatch step down the slope, each built for two and fitted with its own balcony over the bush. Indoor showers face the view rather than a wall, and each room has a freestanding bath, his-and-her basins, a coffee station, mini-bar and safe. Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout. The lounge and dining room open onto a shared terrace and deck, where meals and sundowners run on to whatever is drinking at the waterhole below. It is a small, quiet setup, capped at eight guests. No children under 14 are allowed, which keeps the terrace and the drives geared entirely to adults. Birdwatching and stargazing fill the gaps between game viewing, and beyond the reserve, guides arrange trips to the coast, historical towns and hiking trails inland. Check-in runs from midday, check-out by 11am.
