Kabiki
A quiet townhouse retreat tucked into downtown Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Guests arrive down a quiet alley off central Phnom Penh and find a former townhouse, restored rather than rebuilt. It opened in 2018 as a smaller companion to Penh House, the hotel next door, and keeps the same address in the city's older residential streets near Wat Botum pagoda. The floors are original cement tiles, laid with natural pigment and kept through the renovation rather than replaced. A pool sits at the centre of the garden, ringed by shade and lounging areas; birdsong carries over the traffic outside the walls.
Rooms run across five categories, from the ground-floor Jungle Standard at 22 m² to the Jungle Suite at 50 m², which has a private terrace and its own indoor and outdoor lounging space. The Jungle Panorama and Jungle Deluxe rooms open onto balconies or terraces facing the garden, and the Jungle Confort adds a stylish bathroom to a larger footprint. All eighteen rooms include a minibar, bathrobes and free high-speed WiFi. Breakfast is served at the Garden and Pool restaurant.
Guests can also use Penh House's rooftop restaurant, spa and gym, a short walk down the alley. Bicycles and other transport can be arranged at reception. It is a compact stay, built around one pool and one garden, in a city rarely associated with either.
