Kalipay Resort
Kalipay is named for happiness in the local Bisaya dialect, a promise the owners set out to keep when they built a boutique resort on Tourism Road in General Luna. The site was chosen for its position: two minutes by tricycle from the town centre in one direction and the same distance from the Cloud 9 surf break in the other. Suites run to 50 m², each with a king bed dressed in Egyptian cotton, a separated living area with sofa bed, and a private balcony facing the garden and pool. Rooms come with rain-shower bathrooms and a 55-inch television, and a chilled coconut greets every arrival. The shared pool and garden sit at the centre of the property, with sun loungers and Starlink wifi reaching the terrace. Bicycles are free for the length of a stay, useful given how close the beaches, bars and dive shops of General Luna sit to the front gate. A generator keeps power running through the outages common to the island. The on-site restaurant serves indoor and outdoor seating and changes its menu with the season's catch and produce. It is a small, tidy operation, staffed largely by locals, and it treats the island's environment as part of the deal: refillable water, waste sorted by guests, soap made from local offcuts. Del Carmen airport lies a 45-minute ride away.
