Kam Kam Dunes

Erg Chebbi holds the camp against the largest dune field in Morocco's Sahara, on a stretch of Drâa-Tafilalet reached by 4x4 or camel from Merzouga. Eleven Haimas, tents built from dromedary leather and wool by local artisans in the Berber nomadic style, stand grouped near the dune line. Each has a private bathroom with a hot shower, and sleeps two or three. A dining tent and a chill-out area look straight onto the dunes. It is a short walk, or a ten-minute camel ride, from the tents to the crest of the nearest dune. Evenings run to a set pattern: dinner, then a fire with drums and Berber songs from the staff, then the sky. Mornings open on a sunrise seen from the same sand. Power sockets sit in the communal areas near the kitchen rather than in the tents themselves, and wifi is patchy beyond Orange's signal. The camp runs on a stated policy of minimal environmental impact and holds Travelife sustainable tourism certification. Beyond the tents, the team arranges camel treks, quad rides, sandboarding, and multi-day tours across Morocco. Nights turn properly cold, even after a hot desert day, so warm layers matter.
