Karlamuiza Country Hotel

Set in the Amata Valley inside Gaujas National Park, Karlamuiza occupies the former servants' quarters of a 19th-century manor. The building dates to the mid-1800s, fell into disrepair under Soviet rule, and was fully restored in 2006. It is a compact stay. Fifteen suites and cottages are spread across the main house and its grounds, each with its own kitchenette and bathroom, and most with a separate entrance onto a terrace or balcony. Rooms take their character from oak floors, antique wardrobes, and colour schemes in graphite, sand beige, or pale blue, with names rather than numbers on the doors. The Magdalena suite sits in the attic with a private balcony and a soaking tub; the Annmarie cottage stands about 100 metres from the main house, built in the 1930s and renovated with its own wooden deck and kitchen. Several rooms, including Karl and Maria, look onto an old apple orchard where storks nest in the warmer months. Outside, a landscaped park runs down to the River Amata, with hiking trails close by and a sauna and picnic areas on site. The dining room serves a country-manor menu built on local, seasonal ingredients, with an outdoor terrace open through summer. Cēsis and Sigulda are both within reach for day trips into the wider national park.
