Katamama
Ground-floor dining at Katamama, plant-led by day, Indonesian and international by night

Terracotta brick and timber louvres frame the ground floor of Katamama, the boutique hotel inside Bali's Desa Potato Head complex in Seminyak. Katamama Restaurant is the house kitchen here, open through breakfast, lunch and dinner. It runs alongside Tanaman, the property's plant-based dining room, though the two draw from the same idea: food built on what the island actually grows. The menu mixes authentic Indonesian dishes with international classics, and every ingredient is sourced from across the archipelago rather than flown in. Expect turmeric, jackfruit, kenari nuts and native herbs worked into both familiar and unfamiliar dishes, plated in a room that shares the hotel's contemporary, mid-century-inflected design. It is a compact, easy room. Tables sit close to the open kitchen, and the pace favours long lunches over quick turnarounds. You can hear the pool terrace beyond the louvres on a quiet afternoon. Staff speak English and Chinese, useful given Katamama's international guest mix, and dietary notes are taken without fuss. The restaurant sits within a wider food and drink programme at Potato Head that includes Tanaman's set menus and the resort's cocktail bars, but it functions on its own terms: a straightforward, ingredient-led dining room built around Indonesian technique and archipelago produce.
