Kendov Dvorec

Kendov Dvorec is a manor house on the bank of the Idrijca river in Spodnja Idrija, facing a parish church first recorded in 1156. The property traces its origins to 1377, when the site was already farmed as an estate above the river valley. It is a Relais & Châteaux member, restored to keep its original rural character rather than remade as a period piece. Rooms carry air conditioning, minibars, and private bathrooms, alongside the manor's older fittings and local handmade lace. The restaurant, Kenda Manor, runs on a seasonal menu built around dishes such as žlikrofi and štruklji, drawn from recipes long used in Idrija kitchens. Chef Franci Pivk has led the kitchen for twenty-eight years. Vegetables come largely from the property's own garden and nearby farms; meat, fish, and cheese arrive from a short list of local, certified suppliers. Organic waste is converted off-site into renewable energy, a step credited with cutting CO2 output by 246 kg in 2025. Wine tastings run through the cellar with the house sommelier, drawing on producers from the Primorska region. Fly-fishing rivers sit within walking distance of the manor, a detail the property markets as one of its offers. It is a compact stay, quiet by design, built around the rhythm of a working countryside estate rather than a city hotel.
