Khangkhu Resort
Watching planes climb out of Paro International Airport is, for many guests, the point of staying here. Khangkhu Resort is built up a slope directly across from the runway, and its rooms and verandas look down over the valley to the airport, Rinpung Dzong and the Ta Dzong museum beyond. The property is arranged as a cluster of separate wood-clad buildings stepped up the hillside rather than one block, so upper rooms sit well above the road. It is a short climb between the reception and the higher buildings. The restaurant serves Bhutanese, Indian and Chinese dishes buffet-style or à la carte, with a table-side cooking option for guests who want dishes finished in front of them. A coffee shop roasts and serves single-origin Bhutanese beans alongside imported coffee, and the bar runs a bonfire on request in the evenings. There is also a small spa and a conference room for meetings or seminars. Paro's airport lies close enough that you can watch aircraft land and depart from the terrace, though there are no night flights, so evenings stay quiet. Check-in is from 2pm.
