Kizikula
Begun as a personal project by two childhood friends, one with Zanzibari roots, Kizikula took shape over decades on land bought early in their careers on the coast at Kizimkazi Dimbani. What started as a plan for a few guest houses for family and friends has grown into a small hotel set on a permaculture farm above the Indian Ocean, still run on that original, unhurried logic.

Each of the nine rooms was given to a different collaborator to design, from an on-site architect to a Dubai-based colour specialist, so no two look alike. Sally and natasha each run to 80 m², with outdoor granite bathtubs and their own garden or pool views. Samira and asma measure 60 m², joni 50 m². Lava, the most elevated room, has two terraces, a rooftop bed and an open-air shower. The Villa adds a two-room family unit with shared kitchen and living space for four to six guests.

Food draws on the farm's own herbs, vegetables and goats' milk, alongside produce from named farms elsewhere in Zanzibar and the southern highlands. A sea-facing pool and bar look out over Kizimkazi's sunsets. Check-in runs from 3pm.
