Kurula's Resort

Every suite at Kurula's has its own sauna. That single fact sets the rhythm of a stay here: wood-fired heat, then a walk down to the lake, repeated across seasons. The resort's 17 suites sit in a timber lodge built low against the treeline, heated in part by geothermal energy drawn from the lake itself. Each has a kitchen, a deck, and a view over water to the fells beyond. Premium and superior suites add a second bedroom; family suites fit a bunk room for children. Furniture stays plain — smart TV, wardrobe, drying cabinet for wet ski gear — so the window does the work.

Outside, a handcrafted lakeside sauna by Tingander, its timber carved in patterns drawn from local amethyst, anchors the resort's cold-water rituals; a hot tub sits alongside it. The ski bus stops next door, and the North Slope lifts and cross-country trails are about 600 metres off, roughly a 10-minute walk. Rovaniemi's airport and station are 90 minutes by car. Pyhä-Luosto, Finland's oldest national park, borders the property directly, and Pyhä itself holds status as the Nordics' first carbon-neutral ski resort. The restaurant serves breakfast and à la carte through winter and reopens each November after its off-season pause.
