La Commanderie
Four rooms, one house near La Chaux, dating from 1250
La Chaux, in the canton of Vaud, has held this house since around 1250, when it formed part of a commandery offering rest to travellers and pilgrims. The current owners bought the property in 2007, learning only afterwards of its history as a place of welcome. Work began in 2012 to restore the unused part of the house, and the first guest rooms opened in autumn 2014. The façade is a listed historic monument. Four rooms occupy the older section of the house: Mary-Laure and Elsa, each with a double bed and an interior terrace looking onto the garden, and Marie and Lucie, each fitted with twin beds and a reading corner. Rooms run from 23 to 25 square metres. Stone, natural light and plain lines carry through the interiors, alongside Wi-Fi and modern comforts. Breakfast is served each morning, made with home and local produce. Outside, the garden holds an unheated pool and opens onto the surrounding countryside between Lausanne and Yverdon. The house also runs as an events venue: the Salle des Chevaliers, lit by garden-facing windows, holds up to 20 people, and a cellar space serves smaller gatherings. Parking runs to 15 spaces. It stands a few minutes from Morges.
