La Dune des Songes
Set across eight hectares of dune on the southwest coast of Madagascar, La Dune des Songes faces open ocean near Anakao, a village reachable only by boat from Tuléar. The sand runs for 500 metres along its front. Five bungalows sit within the dunes, each angled differently so no two share quite the same view of the lagoon; four add a second terrace facing east, for sunrise over the water. Wooden shutters let the sea breeze move through each room, and bathrooms are finished in polished concrete with a walk-in shower. Beyond the bungalows, a handful of other stays extend the property: the Alizé Cabin near the main house, the family-sized Havana lodge with direct beach access, and Tanambao Villa, a private bungalow with its own suite and outdoor space. Electricity comes from solar panels, water from a reverse-osmosis system, and the roofing from vundro, a local straw. There is no fixed dining room. Meals are set wherever guests choose that day, following light, weather, and appetite. You can watch Vezo fishermen's pirogues cross the bay under coloured sails, much as they have for generations. Activities run to kitesurfing, surfing at nearby breaks, whale watching in season, and canoe trips to Nosy Vé and Nosy Satrana. Wi-Fi is limited to a few hours each afternoon.
