La Gazelle d'Or Resort & Spa

Dinner here can mean a private tent pitched in an oasis, or a table at Le Mirage under an oriental-styled ceiling. La Gazelle d'Or is a resort built into a palm grove in El Oued, in Algeria's south-east, with four restaurants and a rooftop sky bar layered across the property. Le Sud serves regional dishes from the Oued Souf area, including couscous mrissa and lamb méchoui roasted over coals. Le Grill sits poolside, for tacos and burgers between swims, while La Coupole runs breakfast through dinner on a buffet or à la carte. Rooms range from 16 m² standards to 33 m² deluxe rooms under a carved dome ceiling, each with its own terrace. Two Touareg and Nomade tents, woven from camel-hair cloth in the traditional style, offer 32 m² of space and a king or twin bed. Suites add a small kitchenette and sitting room; a 160 m² villa suite comes with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private 29 m² terrace. The sky bar looks out over the surrounding landscape, suited to a drink after dark. Guests also have a gym, a spa, a large jacuzzi and a pool. Wi-Fi runs across the property, and event spaces handle conferences and private functions. It is a compact but well-equipped base for the region.
