Set behind a walled garden of palms and orchids, La Villa mixes antique furniture with modern fittings, so a marble stair can lead to a room with a flat-screen and a coffee tray within a step of each other. It is a compact stay by Accra standards, with 55 rooms, suites and apartments spread across the property. Apartments run largest, with separate living rooms and open-plan kitchens; the standard room takes a queen bed in 50 square metres. Each room comes with Wi-Fi, a hairdryer and a private bathroom, which sounds ordinary until you notice how quiet the halls stay even midweek. Soprano Restaurant sits at the centre of the day, plating Afro-Mediterranean dishes, from grilled seafood to tagines, alongside a bar built for a slow evening drink. The pool sits just beyond it, ringed by banana trees, with loungers positioned for shade rather than show. Meeting rooms scale from an intimate 20-person lounge to Gusto, which seats 120, making the hotel a working base as much as a place to unwind. Airport transfers and 24-hour staff cover the practical end of things. Christiansborg Castle, Independence Square and the Accra beaches all sit a short drive away, with Makola Market further into the city's noise. The hotel has held a place in Accra's hospitality trade for over a decade, and it shows in a staff who know most guests by name.
