Lambhus is a cluster of twenty cabins on open ground near Höfn, with the Vatnajökull ice cap filling the view to the north. The setting is flat and quiet, ringed by farmland and the low outbuildings of a working steading. Two cabin sizes are on offer: a 20 m² version with a double bunk and a sofa bed, and a smaller 15 m² version with just the bunk, sleeping two. Each has its own WC and shower, a kitchenette with hot plates, fridge, kettle and coffee maker, and electric heating rather than geothermal. Hot water runs out after about half an hour and takes four hours to refill, a reminder that this is not geothermal ground. There is no restaurant on site. Höfn, 30 km east, has the nearest supermarket and a choice of places to eat, and several restaurants sit closer along the road. From the cabins, glacier hikes, snowmobile trips and kayaking on ice lagoons are all within a short drive, along with the boat tours at Jökulsárlón and the canyon trails at Múlagljúfur. Skaftafell National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies 100 km west. Guests travel by car; there is parking on site and an outdoor play area for children, who should be supervised outdoors. Checkout is before 11am.
