Landhotel

Dark skies are the point here. Landhótel sits in open country near Hella, away from any city glow, and on clear winter nights the aurora shows directly above the car park. The building itself is plain and modern, clad in the pared-back style common to South Iceland's newer hotels, with 69 rooms split across three categories: Standard rooms at 25 m², Superior rooms at 27 m² with robes and slippers, and Family rooms at 30 m² with a sofa bed for up to five guests. Wi-Fi, a Smart TV and a coffee maker come as standard. A wellness area holds a sauna, hot tub, and a gym and play room for guests travelling with children. The restaurant, Tindur, runs an à la carte dinner menu built on ingredients from farms and producers nearby, alongside a buffet breakfast and lunch service. It is a short drive, not a detour. Road 26 meets the Ring Road ten minutes away, putting Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, and the Golden Circle within a single day's loop, and Reykjavík itself is roughly ninety minutes west. Staff run a wake-up call for the Northern Lights, with live camera feeds streamed to room televisions so nobody has to stand outside in the cold to check.
