Las Vertientes Lodge
Framed by manicured lawns and garden borders, Las Vertientes Lodge looks out on mountains from nearly every angle. The lodge sits on a small private farm on the slopes above San Martín de los Andes, run by the same family since 1991. It is a compact stay. Three rooms open off the main house and an adjoining wing, each with its own bathroom and modern fittings rather than anything showy. Two sitting rooms hold sofas, an electric kettle, and a stock of tea and coffee for guests who would rather stay in than head back into town. Breakfast runs to fresh bread, pastries, homemade jam, ham, cheese, and fruit, with coffee, tea, or juice made to order. On evenings when the local restaurants hold no appeal, the lodge arranges a home-cooked dinner delivered and set at the table. The city centre lies 7 km away, ten to fifteen minutes by car along a paved road that turns to gravel for the final 700 m. Chapelco Airport is 20 km further on. Guests fish the rivers nearby, ride into the mountains, play golf on a course designed by Jack Nicklaus, or simply watch birds from the garden. Staff speak English, Spanish, and French.
