Le Four a Pain

Named after the bread oven once central to Réunion farmhouses, Le four à pain takes its bearings from that older, working kitchen tradition rather than any hotel formula. It sits a short drive from Saint-Philippe, in the district known as the South Sauvage for its lava fields and forest. The guesthouse has six rooms in total: five doubles and one twin, spread across small bungalows rather than a single block. One room is fitted for guests with disabilities. Each bungalow has its own bathroom with an Italian-style shower, open and step-free. Breakfast draws on produce grown on the owner's own farm and is served fresh each morning. A pool and garden give the property its outdoor centre, with a terrace used for meals and quiet hours between excursions. You can hear the birdlife of the surrounding forest from the garden most mornings. The setting favours travellers heading into the South Sauvage for hiking, lava-field walks, or the coast nearby, rather than those wanting nightlife or a large resort. Check-in runs from 3pm, check-out by 10am. It is a compact stay, built on a domestic scale, with the farm-to-table breakfast as its clearest signature.
