Le Loimata Cottage
Arriving means a ferry crossing from Mulifanua wharf on Upolu, followed by a coastal drive to Fagamalo on the north coast of Savai'i. Le Lagoto sits on a white sand beach lined with coconut palms, its ten Samoan-style bungalows split evenly between two rows: five Beachfront Bungalows facing the water directly, five Ocean View Bungalows set behind with lagoon views. Each has air conditioning, a king bed, a private bathroom, a balcony with sun loungers, and a mini fridge for the tea and coffee kit. Two older properties, including a two-bedroom family house with its own boat ramp, are bookable separately by email. Breakfast is included and changes daily, from French toast to local dishes, and kayaks and paddle boards are free to use from the beach. An infinity pool sits beside Hans Poolside Bar, where happy hour runs late on Fridays. Vailili Restaurant runs a Friday fiafia buffet with fire dancing and a Sunday Polynesian barbecue with string band music. Dive Savai'i, based across the road, runs boat trips out to the wreck of the Juno and the Coral Gardens reef, both a short ride from shore. Green turtles can be visited on foot nearby, hand-fed and unbothered by swimmers. Check-in runs from 1.30pm. At night, the palms move in the wind and the sea stays close enough to hear from the balcony.
