Le Viscos

Slate roofs and the bell tower of a medieval abbey church fill the view from most rooms here. The hotel stands on the square of Saint-Savin, a village in the Hautes-Pyrénées, where a stone fountain sits across from the front door and the Massif du Hautacam rises beyond the rooftops. It is a small place: ten rooms and suites, run by the Saint-Martin family for seven generations. Rooms are named plainly for what they show. The Chambre Grand Confort looks over the square and its singing fountain; the Chambre Confort mountain rooms face the peaks directly, four of them, each with air conditioning and a private bathroom. A Family Suite sleeps five under the same view of slate and stone. The wine list favours the region too, with Jurançon and Pacherenc whites, Madiran reds. Across the square, the more informal Bistrot de l'Abbaye keeps its own rooms, all facing the same mountain massif. Parking is free and pets are welcome, a supplement may apply. The abbey clock still marks the hour over the square.
