Lemon Beach Resort

Elmina gave this coast its name and its castle, and Lemon Beach Resort sits close enough to walk to both. The property opened its doors in a fishing town on the Gulf of Guinea, where the fort's white walls still face the water. It holds 24 rooms across four styles, from a compact African Chalet at 16 m² to a Family Villa of 95 m² built for four. Each was designed by the Czech architect Jiří Jež, and every room keeps a sea view. Days run loose but full: a boat tour past the castle, lunch at Anomansa on a terrace over the harbour, a walk through Elmina's streets. You can hear the Atlantic from the sun beds by the pool. On Saturdays the resort stages an hour of drumming and fire performance, free to guests. The kitchen turns out a five-course menu blending Ghanaian and continental cooking, and a masseuse works the sand under nothing but ocean sound. The resort has backed local schooling and jobs in Elmina since 2011, a fact guests absorb simply by staying. Check-in includes a welcome drink on the terrace. It is a compact stay, built around one town's history and one stretch of shore, rather than around scale.
