Les Relais de Josephine

Watch dolphins from the breakfast table at Les Relais de Joséphine, a family-run guesthouse set beside the Tiputa Pass on Rangiroa, the second-largest atoll in French Polynesia. Corinne and Jean-Robert run the place themselves, and it shows in the pace: bicycles lent out free, snacks served without booking, a table d'hôte menu built around local fish. Seven bungalows sit in the garden or face the pass. Each covers 35 m2 and holds a bathroom, separate toilet, dressing area, fan, fridge and safe. A four-poster king bed pairs with a single bed, sleeping two to three, with an extra bed available. Every bungalow opens onto its own terrace. From there guests can watch the pass at length. The kitchen leans French and Polynesian, with tuna, mahi-mahi and grouper on the dinner menu alongside a lime tart from the Marquesas. Lunch is looser: quiches, paninis and sandwiches served on the terrace, no reservation needed. The guesthouse sits next to Ohotu port, a short boat ride from the traditional village of Tiputa across the water, and within reach of several dive centres. Excursions can be arranged through the property, including trips into the lagoon and visits to a pearl farm. It is a compact stay, built on routine and proximity to the water rather than scale.
