Lewinnick Lodge

Built into the rock of Pentire Headland, Lewinnick Lodge began as a restaurant with rooms rather than a conventional hotel, and the kitchen still sets the tone. Five room categories run off this idea: Luxury Double and Superior Oceanside both open onto 180-degree coastal views through dual-aspect windows, while the Headland Double, dog-friendly and simply furnished, looks over Pentire's own headland instead of open sea. Each takes a free-standing bath or a walk-in monsoon shower, and several run to 30 or 35 square metres. It is a small property, easy to cross in a minute. Breakfast is served on the terrace, where wild grasses and bee-friendly planting have replaced the usual clipped lawn, and an electric-car charge point sits by the car park at no extra cost. The restaurant works Cornish produce from local fishermen and farmers into a menu that changes with the season, and the bar has swapped plastic straws for paper. You can walk the South West Coast Path from the doorstep towards Crantock at low tide, or reach Fistral Beach and central Newquay on foot in under twenty minutes. A lift serves the first-floor rooms, and a family suite offers two interconnecting rooms for those travelling with children. The lodge sits at the edge of the Atlantic, and it does not pretend otherwise.
