Lokobe Forest Lodge
Set against the edge of the Lokobe Forest Reserve, a protected pocket of rainforest on Nosy Be, Lokobe Forest Lodge has grown up as the quiet counterpoint to the island's beach resorts. Reached only by boat, it sits where jungle trail meets shoreline, with no road access to soften the arrival. The bungalows are simple and beachfront, built for sea views rather than show, each with basic fittings and a porch facing the water. Dinner runs in an open-air setting, and the lounge stays shaded through the afternoon heat. In the evening, guests gather round the campfire with a drink while lemurs move through the trees close by; it is an easy, unforced kind of wildlife encounter, not staged. Guided walks lead into the reserve by day and by torchlight after dark, tracking the forest's nocturnal residents. From the lodge, boats run out to Tanikely Marine Reserve for snorkelling among reef fish, and to Nosy Komba for its market and its lemurs. Kayaks are available for guests keen to explore the coastline at their own pace. It is a small, working base rather than a resort, built around the forest it borders and the water it faces. Access by boat only keeps the pace slow and the numbers low.
