Londolozi Game Reserve

Setting out at dawn behind a ranger and tracker, guests at Londolozi cross a traversing area of wild land in search of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. The reserve has built its reputation on leopard sightings and shifting lion dynamics, and its five camps each offer a different pace of stay. Varty Camp, the original site, has kept its campfire burning since 1926; brick paths and dolerite walls wind past waterfalls under a stand of riverine trees. Pioneer Camp sits apart under ebony trees said to be 500 years old, its three suites built for seclusion or, joined together, for a family group of up to twelve. Each room across the camps opens onto a private plunge pool and outdoor shower, with a timber deck sala for dining outside. It is a working conservation model as much as a lodge. Beyond the vehicle, days run to a gym, a photographic studio, a Healing House spa, and a Village Walk through the reserve's own clinic, crèche and craft centre. Wi-fi reaches every room, though phone signal does not. Check-in runs from 1.30pm, checkout at 11am, and the daily rhythm rarely strays far from an early wake call, a long game drive, and a fire lit again by dusk.
