Lost Farm Lodge

Tasmania's north-east coast gave Barnbougle its start in 2004, when a stretch of former potato farmland at Bridport became The Dunes, the resort's first links course. Lost Farm followed soon after, laid across the neighbouring dunes with fairways that run to the edge of Anderson Bay. The land had grown potatoes, not golfers, and the routing still follows its old contours rather than reshaping them. Lost Farm Lodge now sits within walking distance of the first tee, its suites split between ocean-facing and course-facing rooms, each with two queen beds or one, a walk-in shower and its own air conditioning. The Dunes Cottages, twenty-two in total, sit further along the coast with two bedrooms apiece and a private deck looking over the fairways. For groups wanting more room, Ocean Villas perch on the dune above The Dunes course, each one spanning 114 square metres with a 66-square-metre deck facing Bass Strait. You can hear the surf from most of them. Bridport itself, a small seaside town, lies a short drive off, and the cool-climate vineyards of Pipers Brook and Jansz sit within twenty minutes. The resort is roughly an hour from Launceston by road. Two decades on from that first fairway, the coastline still does most of the talking.
