Luke's Place

Luke's Place is a small self-catering guesthouse set directly on the beach at Vilanculos, on Mozambique's Inhambane coast, a short crossing from the Bazaruto Archipelago. The property is run by owners Linda and Louis, and the scale stays deliberately small: two Seaview Casas and one two-bedroom Seafront Villa. Each Casa holds a queen bed under a wide mosquito net, an en-suite bathroom, a self-catering kitchenette and a private veranda facing the water. The Seafront Villa adds a private pool and its own direct beach access, built for families or groups travelling together. Coconut trees shade the garden, and a shared pool sits between the rooms and the sand. You can hear the tide come in at night, a change from silence to the sound of waves against the shore. Vilanculos itself runs about 5 km end to end, with an international airport on its edge serving daily flights to Johannesburg and Maputo. Dhows and helicopters link the town to the Bazaruto islands, where diving, snorkelling and deep-sea fishing are the main draw; the property keeps a 22ft Novacat fitted with Shimano tackle for six-person fishing charters. Airport transfers, laundry and a stocked pantry can be arranged on request. Check-out is a short walk across warm sand, not a drive. It is a compact, personally run stay rather than a resort, with the owners handling logistics from travel forms to island trips themselves.
