Magic Luxury Camp
Sand runs pale gold to the horizon here, broken only by the dark wool and camel-skin weave of the khaimas that give Magic Luxury Camp its shape. These are the traditional tents of the region's nomadic herders, reworked with private bathrooms and proper beds. Ten stand together on a stretch of Erg Chebbi, Morocco's tallest dune system, reached by a camel ride of about an hour from the meeting point near Merzouga. Guides lead the ride, often timed to reach the highest dunes for sunset. A separate restaurant tent serves Moroccan dishes by candlelight, and afterwards Berber musicians play drums round a fire lit against the evening chill. You can count shooting stars from a mat outside the tent, since staff allow guests to sleep under open sky when the weather holds. Mornings bring a second climb to watch the sun rise over the dunes before the camels, rested overnight nearby, carry guests back toward the village. Days can be filled with quad rides or 4x4 circuits into the wider desert, past dry riverbeds and the odd nomad settlement still worked today. It is a small camp by regional standards, tucked low enough in the dunes that neighbouring camps stay out of earshot. Check-in details and transfers are arranged directly with the camp.
