Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid is a Belle Époque hotel opened in 1910 by King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia. It has anchored the city's Golden Triangle of Art ever since, standing between the Prado Museum and Retiro Park, with the Thyssen-Bornemisza a few minutes' walk away. A landmark restoration, completed in 2021, brought the building forward without erasing its origins: gilt cornices and period detailing sit alongside a design overhaul by Gilles & Boissier. The hotel now holds 100 rooms and 53 suites, several with balconies looking over the Prado or Lealtad Square. Chef Quique Dacosta oversees five restaurants and bars, including Deessa, his signature address, and the Palm Court, where afternoon tea is served under a glass canopy. There is a walled garden for dining outdoors. Wellness facilities include a heated indoor pool kept at 28 degrees, a vitality pool, a steam room and a Technogym-equipped fitness centre. You can walk to El Retiro Park in minutes, or to Puerta del Sol not much further. Valet parking is available for guests arriving by car. Rooms carry marble bathrooms and artwork tied to the hotel's own history, a detail that keeps the past legible in the fabric of the place rather than staged for effect.
