Mangrove Cay Club
On Andros's Middle Bight, a bonefishing lodge built for comfort
Set on the north shore of Mangrove Cay, facing the Middle Bight, Mangrove Cay Club sits at the centre of Andros's bonefish flats, among the largest stretches of that habitat anywhere. Four duplex cottages stand along the shore, screened from one another by coppice left standing when the site was cleared. Each holds two suites. It is a short walk to the main lodge along a sand path. Every suite has a cypress ceiling, a sitting room, and a private porch facing the water, reached through sliding doors from a bedroom with twin queen beds turned toward the sea. The lodge itself opens onto a wide veranda above the Bight, stepping down through a patio to a limestone dock where guides collect guests each morning. At the property's west end, a small sand beach sits behind a seawall of native limestone, with a thatch-roofed gazebo nearby for watching the sunset. A limestone jetty beside it doubles as a casting spot. Guides here are local men who grew up fishing, diving, and sponging these same waters. Dinners run to local grouper, snapper, and lobster brought straight to the dock by passing fishermen. The lodge holds a maximum of sixteen guests across its eight suites, keeping the pace unhurried and the staff attentive. Bicycles are kept on site for exploring the settlement beyond the lodge gate.
