Mara Kimana Luxury Camp
On the banks of the Sekenani River, two kilometres from Sekenani gate on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve, Mara Kimana Luxury Camp keeps a low profile among stands of jackal berry trees. It is a small camp. Capacity tops out at forty guests, and tents come as singles or doubles, some sleeping up to four. Raised brick and timber walkways link the tents through the woodland, each with its own patio, hot shower and a kettle for tea or coffee. Power comes from the grid with a generator on standby, and staff handle housekeeping, airstrip transfers and secure parking. The nearest airstrips are Keekorok and Siana; Nairobi is a six-hour drive. Days run on game drives into the reserve and guided nature walks through the surrounding woodland, tracking birds, reptiles and smaller game on foot with a Maasai guide. A Maasai village stands five minutes away, where guests can watch beadwork, dance and song, or simply walk through the homestead. Balloon safaris lift off before dawn, tracing the Sekenani's course and the tree canopy from above zebra and antelope on the plain. Evenings close with bonfires and sundowners, or a bush dinner set among the trees. The camp draws families, small groups, students and film crews alike, all housed under canvas within earshot of the river.
