Mas Falgarona Hotel Boutique

Arriving at Mas Falgarona means turning off the road outside Avinyonet de Puigventós, into a farmhouse rebuilt as a boutique hotel and spa. The setting is rural, but Figueres, Roses and Girona sit within easy reach for a day trip to their museums, coastline or old streets. Rooms and suites mix contemporary design with the thick walls of the original mas. Three garden suites open onto balconies facing the Empordà garrigue. Their bathrooms have large windows framing the sky, with privacy kept intact despite the glass. The old barn has been converted into a spa. It kept its exterior form. Inside, a ground-floor pool with hydrojets faces the landscape through the windows, and a Finnish sauna and treatment cabins sit upstairs, where guests can look out over the same garrigue view from the relaxation rooms. The restaurant runs on produce from the property's own organic garden, with a chef who works local ingredients into a menu with modern touches. Its walls carry a private collection of old menus from restaurants across Europe. The kitchen sources meat, vegetables and wine chiefly from small producers nearby, and keeps a cellar built around the Empordà wine region. It draws a quiet, deliberate line between old stone and new comfort.
