Mathis Retreat

MATHIS Retreat Ubud is a boutique hotel set among working rice fields on the edge of Ubud. It sits a short drive from the town centre, screened by tropical planting rather than fronted by a busy road. The property holds 21 rooms and bungalows, split between Deluxe rooms and Garden bungalows, plus a connecting Deluxe configuration for two parties travelling together. Deluxe rooms look over the paddies and open onto a private terrace; Garden bungalows face a quieter, enclosed garden and can take a third bed on a convertible sofa. Every room has air conditioning, a minibar, a safe and satellite television, along with a bathtub. Terracotta Restaurant serves Asian and international fusion from seven in the morning until eleven at night, with tables looking out over the fields. There is a spa, a pool and an activity desk. On-site options run to cycling, kayaking and cooking courses, and staff can arrange elephant encounters and guided walks further afield. It is a compact stay. Rooms come with laundry service and Wi-Fi throughout, and an airport shuttle and chauffeur service are available on request. The hotel pairs easily with sister properties on the coast and in Amed for a two-stop Bali itinerary, though it stands on its own terms as a base for exploring central Ubud.
