Mångata
Stepping straight from a wooden deck onto sand, guests at Mångata reach the water of Hin Kong beach in a few strides. The resort holds just five bungalows, each with its own private deck fitted with a hammock, table and chairs facing the sea. Built with local Thai materials and craft, the bungalows keep a king bed, air conditioning, a fridge and an ensuite bathroom, alongside the kind of quiet detail that adds up: courtesy toiletries, daily cleaning, a room safe. It is a compact stay. Outside, a 20-metre infinity pool runs toward the horizon, and a private beach gives room for sunbeds and hammocks without crowd or noise. At low tide, sand banks appear and guests can walk out toward the reef, roughly 280 metres offshore. Massages are arranged on a bamboo sala by the beach, and a communal kitchen lets guests cook for themselves, though cafés and restaurants sit within walking distance. Mångata keeps an adults-only policy and is set on Phangan's west coast, ten minutes by car from the port town of Thong Sala and three minutes from Srithanu, the island's yoga village. From here, the limestone islands of Ang Thong National Marine Park lie within reach by boat. Named for the Swedish word describing the moon's reflection rippling on water, the property is small enough that its two managers know every guest by name.
