Moonstone Lodge

Six suites at Moonstone Lodge take their names from what swims offshore: Dolphin, Whale, Turtle, Coral, Starfish, Seahorse. Each sits around a garden pool a short walk from the beach at Ponta do Ouro, near Mozambique's border with South Africa. Rooms range from en-suite doubles to family suites sleeping four, some with shared bathrooms, and a separate Sunrise Retreat looks out over the water. The lodge runs its own Learn to Dive programme, taking beginners through theory sessions, pool training, and open water dives in reef conditions clear enough to see coral and passing marine life. It is a compact stay. Divers already certified can join recreational trips, while non-divers can book snorkelling with dolphins, guided turtle walks in season, whale watching, or a day trip to Maputo National Park nearby. Meals draw on local and international cooking, served in the garden or by candlelight, and mobile therapists come to guests' rooms for massage and reflexology. Reeva Taback, who founded the lodge, runs it with an emphasis on sustainability and support for the surrounding community. Reception operates from 8am to 5pm, with the owner reachable after hours for late arrivals. Guests come chiefly for the diving and the reef, though the garden and pool give the property a quieter, land-based rhythm between excursions.
