Motherland Guesthouse

Motherland Guest House is a guesthouse set in the town of Thaba-Tseka, in Lesotho's central highlands, within easy reach of the district's shops and a bank. The building holds six categories of room, from Twin Rooms with two queen beds to the Kingdom Suite, along with a Family Room that sleeps four. Two conference halls, one seating up to 100 and a larger one for up to 300, put the house to work for meetings as much as for overnight stays. A restaurant and bar lounge serve guests through the day, and breakfast draws on produce grown locally. Outside, a garden gives onto mountain air that guests notice first thing, stepping out of the bedroom into it. Thaba-Tseka itself is a district town known for the nearby Katse Dam, part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, and for trekking routes into the surrounding peaks. Local markets in town sell Basotho blankets, woven baskets and pottery, and the guest house restaurant will point visitors toward dishes such as papa and moroho, staples of the region's table. Parking is on site. It is a compact stay, built less as a scenic lodge than as a working base for business travellers, engineers on the water project, and hikers heading into the highlands beyond the town.
