Motu Lodge Huahine
Surrounded on every side by lagoon, Motu Lodge occupies a small islet off Huahine, reached only by boat. The water sits close enough to the house that it can be watched from the sofa, and a private dock extends from the garden into the shallows. The owning family lives on the same four-hectare plot, growing and drying vanilla, and stringing Tiare flowers into welcome garlands for hotels on the main island.

Two lodgings share the site. The house sleeps up to four, with one bedroom and a second double bed in the open common area, a private kitchen and bathroom, and a pool table. The bungalow is smaller, built for two, with its own kitchen and bathroom and a direct line to the water. Both come stocked with linens, oil, and condiments; guests cook for themselves. Boat transfers to and from Huahine are free.

A wide beach runs along the ocean side of the motu, empty but for the odd wave. You can kayak or snorkel straight off the property, or walk the plantation rows of coconut palms and vanilla vines. It is a quiet stay, built around a family that has made a life of hosting rather than a business of it.
