Mowani Mountain Camp
Mowani Mountain Camp sits among large ochre boulders in the Uibasen-Twyfelfontein Community Conservancy in Damaraland, roughly five and a half hours by road from Windhoek or twenty minutes by transfer from Twyfelfontein Airstrip. The camp has a lounge and dining room, a bar, an outdoor boma used for dining on special occasions, and a swimming pool carved out of the surrounding rock.
Accommodation runs from twelve thatched view rooms — twin beds that convert to king, canvas walls that open to the valley — up through a west-facing Luxury Room with a private heated splash pool, a Rock Suite set within the boulders with an open-air bathroom, and a Mountain Suite with wrap-around views, outdoor deck, heated splash pool, sala, and a bath and shower area with open sky above. The Luxury Room is positioned close to the main area and suits guests with limited mobility.
Guided nature drives leave early morning and run four to six hours, covering desert-adapted flora and fauna — elephant, mountain zebra, kudu, springbok, klipspringer — with drinks and snacks included. A separate afternoon excursion visits Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain, and the Organ Pipes; Twyfelfontein holds one of the largest collections of San rock engravings in Africa and is Namibia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Self-guided walking trails around the camp carry information boards on the local plants and geological formations.
The camp enlarged a waterhole on the property to support a herd of eighteen elephants that moves through the area. Hot air balloon flights over the Aba Huab valley can also be arranged.
