Set along the IJ waterfront on Piet Heinkade, this hotel faces the water on one side and the city on the other. Amsterdam Centraal Station is a short walk away, and the old canal district, with its museums, lies about a 25-minute walk or a five-minute tram ride from the door. Schiphol Airport is 20 minutes by car. The building holds 408 rooms and suites, each with Wi-Fi, organic fair-trade linen and views over either the river or the rooftops of the city. Executive rooms and suites add access to a private lounge. The Ambassador Suite runs to 57 m² with a separate living room and a free-standing bath. Downstairs, a restaurant serves a seasonal menu daily, and the Lobby & Lounge Bar handles the evening trade. A Lifestyle Studio covers the gym, a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna and an ice fountain. Eleven meeting rooms, lit by daylight, hold up to 450 delegates between them, which keeps the hotel busy with conferences as well as travellers passing through. It has operated since September 2006 and holds Green Globe certification for its sustainability record. Rooms are soundproofed against the tram line outside, and several, including the SLEEP Twin, look straight onto the water and the curved roof of Centraal Station.
