The water here carries so much salt that swimmers do not swim, they float, face up, arms out, at the lowest point on the earth's surface. Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea sits on the sea's northern shore at Sweimeh, 420 metres below sea level, its low-rise buildings arranged as a village among gardens rather than a single block. Rooms start at 29 m² in the main building, some with partial sea views; further out, Superior and Deluxe rooms face gardens from a balcony or terrace. Premium Pool View rooms, reserved for adults, come with a private pool and jacuzzi in a quiet corner of the village. Suites run from 61 m², two bathrooms and a sofa corner as standard, and the Royal Villa spans 185 m² with six bedrooms and its own pool overlooking the water. The Zara Spa covers 6,000 m² and draws on the sea's black mud and mineral salt, long credited with easing skin and joint complaints. You can walk straight from a treatment room onto the shore. The resort opened in 2000 and remains within a 20-minute drive of Madaba and Mount Nebo.
