Mweya Safari Lodge

Setting out at dawn for the Kasenyi plains, guests reach lion and Uganda kob country within a short drive of the lodge. Mweya Safari Lodge occupies a peninsula inside Queen Elizabeth National Park, with the Rwenzori range rising beyond the Kazinga Channel. Game drives run morning and evening, in lodge vehicles or a guest's own with a ranger guide from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Early departures are rewarded with tea and coffee served before first light. The channel itself, linking Lake George to Lake Edward, moves so slowly across its 36 km length that from the terrace it is hard to tell which way the water runs. A short drive away, the Katwe crater lakes still yield salt by hand, drawn off in shallow pans and evaporated in the sun, with flamingos gathering to sift algae from the shallows. Rooms range from Classic and Deluxe doubles to Superior suites and raised safari tents, several looking straight down the channel toward the peninsula. Signature Cottages add a private patio and the same channel view. It is a working base for the park, not a set piece, and the wildlife often arrives unannounced at the boundary fence.
