Naturalist Beach Resort
Set on the sand at Big Bay, in the fishing village of Castara on Tobago's north-western coast, The Naturalist Beach Resort keeps its ten apartments a few steps from the water. The village sits roughly 32 km from Crown Point airport, reached by a winding road through hills still worked by local fishermen. Rooms are self-contained, with air conditioning, a kitchenette, and a private verandah; several look straight over the bay, and stingrays are often visible from the balcony rail. Snapper, Wahoo, and Shark occupy the upper and ground floors with the widest sea views, while Whale and Crow's Nest join as a two-bedroom unit for larger groups. Breakfast is taken at a communal bar by the water, with local dishes served alongside the usual coffee and pastries. It is a small, family-run stay. Guests can rent a car or jeep on site, book a boat out to Buccoo Reef, or arrange deep-sea fishing and an evening cruise past the bird roosts at the lagoon. Kayaks are available by the hour from the beach. The resort has been rated highly by past guests for over a decade, largely on the strength of the owners' hands-on attention. Castara itself remains a working village, with a handful of bars and small restaurants and a waterfall a short walk beyond the football field.
