Ndau Lodge

Set in the village of Chikale, on Lake Malawi's Nkhata Bay coast, Ndau Lodge sits roughly 2.5 km from the town centre, close enough for a walk in but far enough for quiet. The lake reaches almost to the door. Rooms run in four grades, from Standard, set back in the garden, to the upstairs Superior room, which sleeps three across a king and a single bed and opens onto its own balcony. Most rooms carry a khonde, a traditional Malawian sitting porch, and all use solar-heated water for showers and baths. Waves are audible from several of them at night.

Days are built around the water. Guests can kayak or paddle board along the shore, snorkel among the lake's cichlid fish, or take a motorboat out to watch fish eagles dive for their catch. Cliff jumping is arranged by boat at points chosen along the coast. Inland, the lodge can organise transport and a guide for Nyika National Park, Malawi's largest, where zebra, leopard, and over 400 recorded bird species range across open grassland.

Mango Bar and Restaurant stands under its namesake tree a few metres from the shore, run by owners Newton Matupi and Susan, serving fresh lake fish alongside grilled meat and pasta. It is a compact, family-run stay, built for travellers moving between the lake and the hills beyond it.
