Nepali Ghar Hotel
Carved into every panel and door frame, the woodwork at Nepali Ghar draws on centuries of Nepali building tradition, fitted into a hotel built new in the heart of Thamel. Large windows pull daylight into the Heritage Deluxe rooms. Some open onto private balconies facing the Kathmandu skyline, where the sunset catches the rooftops below. Next door, the Seto Ghar wing was renovated during the pandemic as a 26-room addition, its neoclassical bungalow styling, arched windows and two courtyards a deliberate contrast to the timber-heavy original building. Its Classic Deluxe rooms carry wall cornices painted in yellow and green, a nod to the Rana period. On the top floor, the Ananda Lounge opens onto a terrace bar over the city, serving Mediterranean plates alongside Nepali staples. Chiya Pasal, the all-day restaurant, has moved to Seto Ghar, its art deco fit-out built around a wood-fired pizza oven in the inner courtyard. A meditation hall sits beside the fitness centre. It is a five to ten minute walk from the busier lanes of Thamel, close enough for the noise, far enough to escape it.
